Istanbul Airport Becomes Europe’s Busiest Airport
Istanbul Airport tops Europe in flight traffic during the week of November 24–30, with Sabiha Gökçen also ranking in the top six.
According to the European Aviation Overview Report published by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) for November 24–30, 2025, Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe during this period.
The report shows that Istanbul Airport handled an average of 1,459 flights per day, outperforming all other European airports. Although this figure represents a slight week-on-week decline, it still points to a significant increase on a year-on-year basis.
Sabiha Gökçen strengthens Turkey’s position in European aviation
Turkey’s second major hub, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, also featured among Europe’s busiest airports. With an average of 738 daily flights, Sabiha Gökçen ranked within the top 10, highlighting the strong overall air traffic performance of Turkey’s major airports.
Germany represented by Frankfurt Airport
Germany entered the top six with Frankfurt Airport, which ranked fifth on the list.
Between November 24 and 30, Frankfurt Airport recorded an average of 1,193 flights per day, according to EUROCONTROL data.

Based on the EUROCONTROL report, the ranking of Europe’s busiest airports for the week is as follows:
- 1. Istanbul Airport – 1,459 flights
- 2. London Heathrow Airport – 1,288 flights
- 3. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport – 1,259 flights
- 4. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport – 1,221 flights
- 5. Frankfurt Airport – 1,193 flights
- 6. Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport – 738 flights
