Google has introduced a new artificial intelligence–powered marketing tool called Pomelli, designed to help businesses automatically create advertising campaigns and social media content. The system aims to simplify digital marketing processes, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses with limited marketing resources.

Website analysis to build a “business DNA”

Pomelli begins by analyzing a company’s website to generate what Google describes as a “business DNA.” The system evaluates elements such as color palettes, typography, images and brand tone to understand the company’s digital identity.

Based on this analysis, the AI can automatically generate marketing materials including advertising copy, social media posts and visual ad assets tailored to the brand’s style.

Users can then edit and customize the generated content, allowing companies to maintain control over messaging, design and campaign strategy.

A digital marketing assistant for small businesses

According to Google, Pomelli was developed primarily to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that may not have large marketing teams or extensive advertising budgets.

By automating key parts of the creative process, the tool can function as a digital marketing assistant, helping businesses produce campaigns faster and more efficiently.

Debate over potential impact on creative jobs

The launch of Pomelli has also sparked discussions within the advertising and creative industries. Some experts believe AI tools like Pomelli could automate certain tasks such as writing ad copy or producing basic visual designs.

However, industry professionals emphasize that strategic planning, brand positioning and creative direction will continue to rely heavily on human expertise.

Currently in an experimental phase

Pomelli is currently being developed as an experimental project and is being tested with a limited group of users. Google says feedback from these early trials will help refine the system before a broader rollout.

The introduction of Pomelli highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence in digital marketing, a trend that is expected to reshape how businesses create and manage advertising campaigns in the coming years.
