War Drives Up Pump Prices Across Germany

Escalating military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to shake global energy markets, with the effects now clearly visible at fuel stations across Germany. Pump prices have surged sharply compared with pre-war levels, putting additional pressure on logistics companies and household budgets.

The conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel, which began on February 28, has intensified concerns over global oil supply. Volatility in Brent crude prices has quickly translated into higher fuel prices at German gas stations.

According to field data collected by the trbusiness.de team across Germany, fuel prices are now approaching record levels.

€2 Threshold Surpassed

Compared with the period before the outbreak of the conflict (prior to February 28), the speed of the price increase has been striking. Before the escalation, fuel prices had remained relatively stable.

At that time, Super petrol averaged between €1.70 and €1.80 per liter, while diesel was typically priced between €1.60 and €1.70 per liter.

As of March 8, 2026, average fuel prices in Germany are approximately:

  • Diesel: €2.13 per liter
  • Super E10: €1.98 per liter
  • Super 95: €2.04 per liter
  • Super Plus: €2.16 per liter

How Prices Changed Before and After the Conflict

When compared with pre-war levels, the increase is significant. In the weeks before the conflict, prices remained relatively stable in Germany’s fuel market.

The latest figures indicate that fuel prices have risen by roughly 40 to 50 euro cents per liter since the outbreak of hostilities.

Fuel Price Changes in Germany (Feb 28 – Mar 8)

Fuel TypeFeb 28 (Average)Mar 8 (Average)Increase
Diesel€1.72€2.13+24.3%
Super E10€1.75€1.98+13.7%
Super (95)€1.81€2.04+13.2%
Super Plus€1.90€2.16+14.2%

Rising fuel costs are expected to further impact transportation, logistics, and consumer spending if geopolitical tensions continue to disrupt global oil supply.
